Peab, one of the Nordic region's leading construction and civil contractors, was hired to renovate and expand the block Hajen in Molndal Centre. The expansion included 198 new homes, distributed between a 16-story building and three five-story buildings on existing property.
The industry's first grooved mechanical piping system to perform up to 16 bar on thin wall stainless steel pipe
Working on a very tight deadline, Peab chose to use Victaulic's grooved pipe joining products after learning they offered solutions to challenges such as building sway and settlement, thermal expansion and contraction, and confined working spaces.
With the help of 3D modeling completed by the Victaulic Construction Piping Services team, the buildings' piping systems were redesigned, and Victaulic products were installed on the heating and cooling systems. Joining the pipe with Victaulic Installation-Ready™ couplings proved to be a big time saver. Victaulic couplings work to create a permanent leak-tight seal, with no need for additional reinforcement. Due to their linear movement/ deflection capabilities, Victaulic's flexible grooved couplings accommodated thermal expansion and contraction in the building's riser piping caused by settlement and sway. They also allowed the contractor to avoid the use of large expansion loops in an already very tight space.
In addition to the standard Victaulic couplings, fittings and valves installed on the carbon steel heating and chilled water systems, the contractor installed Victaulic's StrengThin™ 100 piping system for thin wall stainless steel pipe.
